More Money in your Pocket campaign helps older people in Milton Keynes & Newport Pagnell get the welfare benefits they are entitled to

In line with the nationwide initiative, Age UK Milton Keynes has launched its More Money in Your Pocket campaign to help the thousands of pensioners in the borough who are missing out on their share of the £5.4 billion in benefits that go unclaimed each year.

This campaign is designed to raise awareness about the benefits that older people might be missing out on. As benefits entitlements can change at any time, it may be that benefits people haven’t been entitled to in the past are now worth claiming.

Recent increases in gas, food and other household bills are putting a real strain on pensioners’ pockets; 1 in 10 pensioners admit they are finding it difficult or really struggling to survive. This makes it even more surprising that many are not receiving money, either because they don’t know that they are entitled, think the application process is too complicated or are simply embarrassed about claiming. Yet Age UK Milton Keynes offers free and confidential expert support and advice which can help make claiming simple.

Last year Age UK Milton Keynes helped around 800 local older people to claim benefits well in excess of £900,000, and we aim to reach even more people this year. There are hundreds of pensioners in Milton Keynes who are missing out on money that is rightfully theirs, which could make a massive difference to their quality of life.

Chief Executive Jane Palmer said “Age UK Milton Keynes can help make it easy to claim the money that you’re owed. We have benefits advisers available throughout the year to provide expert help and information to older people across Milton Keynes. We would urge all older people in the area to get in touch with us to find out if they can claim.  Please telephone 01908 550700 to find out how we can help you. “
