A candle vigil to commemorate the start of the Great War

Newport Pagnell Town Council, The Royal British Legion, and St Peter and St Paul’s Church have joined forces to bring you an extra-ordinary event to commemorate the start of World War I.

At 10.45 pm on 4th August 2014, residents are invited to gather at the War Memorial outside of St Peter and St Paul’s Church, where the names of those who gave their lives will be called out. Candles will be lit in commemoration.   Everyone will then file into the Church, and at 11 pm,100 years after the exact moment World War I was declared, the candles will be blown out.

Do come along and join us for a never-to-be-forgotten experience of what it was like when the lights went out all over Britain. This is a real opportunity for adults and children alike to be involved in an historical moment of a time almost, but not quite, beyond living memory.

Bring your own candle, and if possible purchase them from Marks and Spencer because they will be donating funds from these to the Royal British Legion.
