PicNic’s in Newport Pagnell has now been open for just over two months and has quickly established itself as the foodie destination.
PicNic’s, located at 63 High Street offers residents of the busy town and local area, freshly prepared food and drinks from carefully selected producers from 8am to 4pm, Monday – Friday and 9am – 5pm on Saturday.
PicNic’s is the brainchild of Nicola O’Brien, who, together with her new husband, Ben, family and friends worked around the clock to renovate the listed unit as quickly and sympathetically as possible.
“Food has been served from these premises to the people of Newport Pagnell for over forty years and I knew when the shop became available that I could carry on this tradition and that it was the place to make my dream a reality, says Nicola.
As a gifted cook and self-confessed, life-long foodie (Nicola’s Nan used to call her Pic Nic as she was always in her kitchen looking for what to eat next!), Nicola’s vision for PicNic’s is a simple one. “I wanted somewhere I could serve great quality food to people who share my passion for eating, in surroundings that are relaxed and welcoming.
Our menu is designed to appeal to everyone’s taste, so we serve traditional favourites such as bacon rolls, pies and stews as well as things like porridge pots with fresh fruit, homemade hummus and fresh, zingy salads and soups. We make and bake as much as we possibly can in the shop using locally sourced produce. Our cakes are getting a following of their own – especially the carrot cake which flies out the door as quickly as we can bake it! If it’s not made by us at the shop then it’s made by a producer that I’ve met who uses the best possible ingredients and most importantly is a product that tastes amazing!
We’ve also got a great range of gluten free cakes and biscuits and try to offer alternatives for those with special dietary needs.
We’ve invested in a fantastic new coffee machine and sampled over 75 different coffees before selecting Union’s Revelation blend. It’s a 100% Arabica blend and Union hand roast their beans in small batches which ensures the flavour remains consistent.
We’re also huge tea lovers and have a wide selection of Teapigs teas or Tetley if you just fancy a good old builder’s brew! And not forgetting our hot chocolate which is made with a whole bar of real chocolate and milk!
We also have free wireless internet, so if you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a good cappuccino but remain ‘connected’ this is the place!”, concludes Nicola.
As well as offering great food to eat in or take away, PicNic’s has many of the same ingredients served in the café available in its adjoining deli area for customers to buy. Whether you’re looking for a speciality ingredient to complete a dish, a cheese board for after dinner or an entire hamper, they can help.
PicNic’s are keen to promote local Artisan food producers and stock Tiny Bakery Bread, Jammy Cow preserves and chutneys, Gourmet Spice Company spices and rubs, Nene Valley Orchards apple juice and Farringtons oils and dressings which are all from Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire.
Speciality cheese and charcuterie (including some British varieties), Olives et al olives, antipasti, sauces and dressings, and Truffle Hunter oils, butters and honey (incredible with cheese!) can also be found in the well-stocked deli counter.
The product range is continually growing so pop in for a browse of the shelves or to sample some of the products – they’ll let you try before you buy!
Christmas at PicNic’s
From early November the shelves will be full of products for Christmas gifts, stocking fillers or to complete your Christmas meal. There will also be some evening Christmas shopping events with food tastings so you can shop for the foodies in your life, create bespoke hampers and get some special ingredients for Christmas whilst enjoying a drink and a mince pie (homemade of course!).
PicNic’s Outside Catering
PicNic’s also quickly branched out into catering for external events and has been delivering working buffet lunches, platters for birthdays and weddings and canapé receptions around the local area. A lunch delivery round will also be launching in the very near future so local workers who can’t get away from work can still enjoy the great food that PicNic’s has to offer.
So, if you’re in need of a satisfying breakfast or lunch, a relaxing brew with a slice of cake or you’re just looking for some special ingredients for dinner or a gift, PicNic’s has something for you!
