A new book has just been published about the many ghosts of Newport Pagnell.
Haunted Places in Newport Pagnell includes chilling ghost tales and local legends featuring murder, mystery and intrigue.
Author Julie Wilson has unravelled stories about a mysterious monk, a whispering child and a woman who burned to death.
Remarkably, it’s thought that Newport Pagnell could claim the title of Britain’s most haunted town.
The place which up until now has been cited as being the most haunted village or town in Britain is Pluckley in Kent with 12-16 ghosts, but Newport Pagnell easily beats that.
Julie said: “It was a big surprise to discover that there are so many reputedly haunted places in the town – 25 are featured in the book. It was fascinating to talk to the many people who have had encounters with ghosts.”
The book includes tales about strange and spooky happenings in several High Street shops, pubs, local landmarks and private houses.
Haunted Places in Newport Pagnell costs £7.50 and is available the Post Office and Doodles in Newport Pagnell or online from Here.
