Paintbrushes at the ready.

Local charity Age UK Milton Keynes was thrilled to join forces with Santander to revamp their Drop-In Centre and Snack & Chat cafe in Central Milton Keynes.

On Monday 2nd July the cafe, which overlooks the Theatre District from the first floor of the Food Centre, welcomed a team of Santander employees keen to roll up their sleeves and do their bit for the local community, whilst also donating £500 towards the cost of materials.

This work has brightened up the friendly cafe, which serves hot meals, sandwiches, teas and coffees at an affordable price. The adjoining drop-in centre offers Information and Advice including Wills and Probate support, day excursions, insurance services and computer classes for older people in the Milton Keynes area.

Renovation work was carried out over seven days with machine embroidery, and was generously supported by two local businesses. Family-run Monarch Carpets and Flooring laid the carpeting for free, and Brewers, the independent decorator’s merchants, provided all painting materials at cost price.

The refurbished premises re-opened at 10am on Wednesday 11th July.

Jane Palmer, Chief Executive of Age UK Milton Keynes said: “The Santander team has been such a support to us over the years, and it’s good to see that Monarch and Brewers were happy to join in the fun. The tea was certainly on tap.”

Chris Waller, Corporate Insurance Manager at Santander, commented: “We are very excited to help Age UK Milton Keynes as part of our Community Day scheme. Age UK Milton Keynes is a great charity to work with and we are proud to support such a worthwhile cause. Seeing the difference Community Days make to local causes continues to encourage us to take part in more schemes like this in the future.”
