Stoke Goldington CE First School August update

All the children and staff are currently enjoying a very well-deserved Summer break! The run-up to the end of term featured a flurry of outings, special assemblies, sports day and a memorable Leavers’ Service as we said our fond farewells to Magnus, Thomas, Georgia, Ruby, Sebastian and Jesse.IMG_0363 IMG_7087

This year for the first time Sports Day was held in conjunction with our partner School North Crawley CE First School, which enabled all 51 children to enjoy a full day of sporting activities and competitions together. The day started off at Stoke Goldington School with Mr. Mangan from Premier Sports running a fun morning of PE sessions for all the pupils. Then after lunch everyone walked across the High Street to Stoke’s playing field for a brilliant afternoon of competitions in the sunshine. With a ‘World Cup’ theme to boot, different teams excitedly moved around the field doing shotput, ‘beat the goalie’ competitions and many more, culminating in the traditional hotly-contested running races – both for pupils and Mums & Dads of course! Overall team ‘Italy’ emerged as triumphant winners, with ‘England’ and ‘Brazil’ in joint second place.

Stoke Goldington pupils also enjoyed a fascinating visit to three different churches in Olney, plus The Cowper and Newton Museum, as part of their ‘Reflection Week.’ The whole School admired the amazing stained glass in St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church, explored the 250-year old font in the Baptist Church and found out more about the work of the United Reformed Church too. The children also walked to the Catholic Church to admire it from the outside. At The Cowper and Newton Museum they were able to enjoy the beautiful gardens

It was a packed day with the perfect opportunity to see so many different places of worship which are so often unexplored and right on our doorstep.IMG_7141 IMG_7162 IMG_7213
