Stoke Goldington CE First School update August 2013

Pupils and staff are currently enjoying a well-deserved Summer break after a busy and fun-filled end to their term.

‘Dan the Skipping Man™’ visited School to host a fantastic workshop reviving the art of skipping in the playground. Every child, from age 4 to 7, found his one and a half-hour teaching session extremely fun and wholly engaging! Parents were invited into the playground to watch all the children’s skipping skills at the end of the session and were hugely impressed by the complexity of some of their moves using a rope!

All 23 children also took part in the Milton Keynes Primary Music Festival in the Doubletree Hilton hotel at MK Dons Stadium. The annual event, organised by the Milton Keynes Music Service, featured hundreds of pupils from schools across the area who joined together for a singing celebration en masse. Afterwards the children were treated to an outdoor picnic and a playtime session at Emberton Park, as a chance to enjoy the Summer sunshine and fresh air after all their vocal activity!

Everyone was over the moon when a dozen employees from Santander spent a day sprucing up their playground and outside areas towards the end of Summer term. As part of its Community Volunteering programme, the group from Santander set to work on the School playground, painting fences and play areas, erecting bright new signage and planting new shrubs.

Santander donated £250 to the School for all the items needed for its ‘makeover’ and their team of 12 people set to work for a day on the project. The Busy Bees children in Early Years Foundation Stage got to help too, excitedly wearing hard hats and overalls for a group photo with Santander staff!

Pupils enjoyed a further visit to St. Peter’s Church in Stoke Goldington, which they explore regularly with Reverend Janet; threw themselves into Sports Day with great gusto and really enjoyed an end-of-term Leavers’ Lunch with everyone dressed up as pirates to top off this term’s nautical learning!

Our Autumn term begins on Wednesday 4th September when we welcome 11 children to our Busy Bees Early Years Foundation Stage classroom – good luck to all our new starters!
