Stoke Goldington CE First School update May 2013

Stoke Goldington CE First School update Summer Term brings much excitement at School with a very special trip for the Learning Ladybirds in Years 1 & 2 to Warwick Castle to tie in with their topic on ‘Castles & Dragons.’A similar visit was hugely enjoyed by pupils last year as the Castle gives the children a brilliant opportunity to find out about life many centuries ago, discover how and why castles were built and explore some of its highly interactive rooms and exhibition areas.

Our termly outside visits, such as this one, always inspire some really imaginative work back in the classroom. For the ‘Castles’ topic the children are making clay tiles in the style of a medieval letter, creating their own shields and doing some imaginative writing about being a knight or a princess. The topic comes to a rather grand close with a full class banquet!

The school’s extra-curricular activities continue to flourish with the introduction of a new after-school tennis club this term, as well as in-school specialist music lessons on a Tuesday morning. These music lessons are currently much enjoyed at our partner School, North Crawley CE First School, and we’re pleased to be introducing them at Stoke Goldington. Premier Sports are also running an after-school multi-sports club and our parish vicar Reverend Janet will continue her monthly after-school Church Club which is always very popular.

Has your child received the School place you applied for starting in September 2013? If not, do remember to come to visit our setting to see exactly how much a small village Primary School can offer your child. Our small class sizes (there currently 23 pupils age 4-7 across Early Years Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2) allow learning to be very much tailored to individual pupil’s requirements and there are fantastic facilities both inside and out. A personal visit allows you to see our children and staff in action on a normal School day and gives a detailed insight into how your child could flourish.

Fundraising follow-up: We’re pleased to report that our Quiz Night in March organised by the Friends of Stoke Goldington CE First School raised £1,098 – a fantastic amount! Thanks to everyone who attended. These funds will go towards School equipment, trips & outings plus special one-off activities for our children. * Telephone Headteacher Mrs. Kathryn Crompton on: 01908-551253 to make an appointment to visit our School.
